Beach Portrait Paintings in Hawai'i

Aloha, I'm Laura,

A Hawai'i-based portrait painter creating bright, full of life beach portraits.

We start with a relaxed photo session at the beach. After the session, I look through the photos and select the ones that would make the strongest painting. I'll share my favorites with you and we'll choose together.

Then I paint your custom oil portrait in my Kona studio and ship it safely to your door.

My style is inspired by Sorolla, the Spanish master who captured people at the ocean in a candid and natural way. Following in his footsteps, I try to capture the sunlight, the warmth, and the feeling of your family in that place.

If you live on the Big Island or you're visiting Hawai’i with your family, a beach portrait turns a day at the ocean into a painting you'll have forever.

How the Portrait Process Works

An easy, streamlined service that you can fit into any Kona beach day with the keiki.

  • Book Your Session

We'll pick a date, a beach, and talk about what you're envisioning.

I'll send a simple proposal and a link to make your deposit. I hold the day before and after your session as backup in case of weather or a tough day with little ones.

  • At The Beach

We meet at the beach for a fun, low-pressure session. No stiff pose, only real moments. Kids playing in the sand, a family walking through the shallows, a toddler holding your hands at the water's edge.

As a painter, I know what makes a great composition, so I'm watching for the light, the gesture, and the feeling while we shoot.

  • Creating Your Painting

After the session, I'll select the most paintable images and send you a small gallery. You pick the one that speaks to you.

For group portraits, I can combine elements from a few photos so everyone looks their best.

  • Studio & Delivery

I paint your portrait in oil at my studio in South Kona. Most paintings take about a month to complete.

Once yours is finished, it ships to your door via FedEx, insured and signature-required.

Painting Style

These portraits are as much about the place as the people. The light on a specific beach, on a specific day. The pinks and lavenders hiding in the sand. The way fabric catches the wind. The reflected sky in the water at your feet.

I paint the light as much as the people in it. It's a portrait of your family and a portrait of that day.

Nothing is posed. Everything is real. Kids doing what kids do, families being together, the ocean stretching out behind you. The kind of painting that takes you right back.

  • Yes! You'll receive a gallery of images from our session. I'm a painter first and not a professional photographer, so I won't promise magazine-quality photography. But I know light and composition, and the photos are yours to keep.

  • I hold the day before and after your session as backup. Life with kids is unpredictable, and I get it.

  • Absolutely. I just need to see the photo first to make sure it'll work for a painting. If it does, we skip the session entirely.

  • Most Paintings take about a month but for larger canvases and extended families, paintings can take 2-3 months.

  • Yes. Flexible plans with up to twelve payments, as long as the balance is settled before the painting ships.

Meet the Artist

I'm Laura, an artist and live wedding painter based in South Kona. I've spent twenty years painting people at their most joyful moments, and beach portraits grew out of that work.

I grew up in Southern California practically living in a wet bathing suit, and I'm still happiest in the water. The ocean is where I feel most at home. I think that's why the beach is the perfect place to paint people. Everyone is a little more themselves there.

I'd love to paint your family.
