Do you prefer a Candid or Composed Scene?

Candid Scene
The painting preserves the wedding as it naturally unfolded. Guests remain where they were in the moment and are painted with loose, impressionistic brushwork.

Composed Scene
A more deliberately constructed painting in which selected loved ones may be included or repositioned. Portraits and important details receive additional studio development.
Inter-Island Travel fee · $700
For weddings on Oʻahu, Maui, and Kauaʻi, the flat travel fee covers round-trip airfare from the Big Island, airport parking, checked bag fees for painting equipment, a rental car, and required hotel accommodations.
No travel fee for all weddings on the Big Island or Southern California weddings during the listed booking windows.

Getting Married in Southern California?
SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA · 2027
Before making Hawaiʻi home, I spent years painting weddings throughout Southern California. I’m returning for a limited number of celebrations in 2027.
Booking windows are available around Memorial Day and early June, Labor Day weekend, and October. During these dates, travel is included and my standard Big Island pricing applies.
Additional dates may be considered with a travel fee.

A $500 payment and a signed agreement secures your date. The balance is due 2 weeks before the wedding. Payment plans are also available.

About 5x5 feet. I bring everything I need — no extra tables, chairs, or lighting required. The only thing I ask for is access to an electrical outlet.

About two hours early. I set up my equipment, start painting the setting, and get a feel for the light and composition before your ceremony

Yes. With a Composed Scene, selected loved ones may be thoughtfully included or repositioned within the composition. With a Candid Scene, guests remain where they naturally appeared during the celebration and are painted more impressionistically.

Pochade comes from the French word "pocher," meaning to sketch. It's a tradition that goes back centuries, when painters would work from portable boxes to capture scenes from life before cameras existed. My pochade paintings bring that tradition to your wedding. A 16 x 20" oil painting on linen, painted primarily from direct observation. You choose the ceremony or the first dance, and the finished painting goes home with you that night.

Pochade paintings are completed during the wedding and go home that night. Capture the Moment paintings are generally completed within 10 weeks. Full Scene and Signature paintings typically require 12-16 weeks, depending on the complexity of the composition.

I love working in oils! Oil paints have richer pigment and blend more beautifully when working wet into wet. This gives you vivid colors and a life-like appearance that won’t fade over time.

Not at all — it’s part of the experience. As a former college drawing professor, I love chatting with guests about art, technique, and what I’m seeing in the moment.
